The Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) has handed over 6 ambulances to the Ministry of Health to be utilized by the Emergency Preparedness Response Unit (EPR).
The SMVAF handed over two Advance Life Support Ambulances last year to the Ministry, which brings the total of ambulances handed over to eight (8). The eight ambulances are worth a total of E13.6 million. The handover took place at the Fund’s headquarters in Mbabane.
Present during the handover was the Director of Health, Dr. Vusi Magagula, SMVAF Chief Executive Officer, David Mfanimpela Myeni, Dr. Mhlanga from the EPR, representatives from the Ministry of Health, and representatives from the Workmen’s Compensation
The Fund’s CEO noted that the ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. “These modern ambulances are equipped with the latest medical equipment and technology, which will undoubtedly enable our EPR staff to get to accident scenes quicker and to handle the victims more effectively while transporting them to health facilities”
The Director of Health, Dr. Vusi Magagula thanked the Fund and said the ambulances would be of great assistance, as evidence has shown that most deaths occur in the pre-hospital phase.
“The prompt response of the emergency staff to any emergency occurrences is essential to saving lives of those who are in need at that particular time. Response seeks to set in place capacity for immediate attention and patient care must start on site with appropriate transportation, and a medically equipped ambulance to a medical facility” he noted.
